Kathleen G. Huston, 91, passed from this life Feb. 5, 2015. Born to George Washington and Bett Hallett Goffigon in Kiptopeke, Virginia, she was raised on her father’s Eastern Shore farm and graduated from Mary Washington University during World War II.
After the war, she married John Huston and moved to Iowa while her husband completed his engineering degree. After living in Silver Spring, Maryland; Key West, Florida; Port Arthur, Texas; and Baja, Mexico, Kathleen and her husband settled in Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1953 and raised their three children.
In 2011, she moved to an assisted-living facility in Marble Falls, Texas, to be near her daughter.
Kathleen taught third grade in the Corpus Christ school district for 28 years, retiring in 1985. A lifetime anti-war advocate, she was involved in the “Another Mother for Peace” organization during the Vietnam War. In retirement, she also volunteered her time to various organizations, including teaching adult literacy and serving meals at Loaves and Fishes.
Kathleen was a member of Saint Bartholomew Episcopal Church.
Her generous and warm personality will be missed by all with whom she came into contact.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Huston.
She is survived by her children, Mary Canipe and husband Tim of Marble Falls, Patrick Huston of San Diego and Bill Huston and wife Melia of Tyler; four grandsons, John Canipe and wife Karin of Austin, Ryan Canipe of Marble Falls, Christopher Huston of Syracuse, New York, and Daniel Huston of San Marcos; and two great-grandchildren, Layna and Luke Canipe, both of Austin.
A service will be held at a later date in Corpus Christi.
In lieu of flowers, Kathleen requested donations be made to Pet PALS, P.O. Box 916, Marble Falls, TX 78654.
