Hazel Irene Carpenter Payne, 90, of Burnet died Dec. 14, 2014

Hazel Irene Carpenter Payne, 90, of Burnet died Dec. 14, 2014, at Oaks Nursing Home in Burnet.  Hazel was born Dec. 11, 1924, in Liberty Hill, Texas, to Arthur Abner and Pauly Belle Plevan Carpenter. 

She married Arlie Payne on Dec. 24, 1943. They were married 62 years. She was a stay-at-home wife and mother to their four children during the first years of their marriage. Later, she joined her husband in the auction business as a bookkeeper and then managed Traders Paradise in Bertram until 2005.

She was longtime member of Northside Baptist Church in Burnet.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include sons, Robert Payne and wife Penny of Burnet, Jerry Payne and wife Sue of Bertram and James Payne of Temple; daughter, Gloria Jackson of Burnet; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Kathryn Carpenter; many nieces and nephews; and her Oaks friends and family.

A funeral service was Dec. 18 at Edgar & Jenkins Family Funeral Home, 109 N. Main St. in Burnet, (512) 756-4444. Interment followed at Mount Zion Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Alan Payne, Justin Mather, Paul Reese, Terry Zinz, William Burgess, Jeremy Payne, Mike Dominguez and Danny Payne. Brother Barry Drake officiated the service.
