Trudy Shell, 65, of Burnet died Dec. 10, 2014

Trudy Shell, 65, of Burnet, Texas, passed away Dec. 10, 2014, in Round Rock, Texas. She was born Jan. 10, 1949, to Jack and Lela Whitaker in San Marcos, Texas.

Trudy spent 7½ years in Germany and spoke German. She loved different languages.

She was a member of Mahomet Disciple of Christ Christian Church.

Trudy is survived by her husband of 36 years, Millard Shell of Burnet; son, Derek Shell of Burnet; and sister, Marsha Hay &and husband Rick of Keller.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Lela Whitaker.

A graveside service is 10 a.m. Dec. 13 at Mahomet Cemetery.

Robert Leroy Smith, 88, of Lake LBJ area died Nov. 30, 2014

Robert Leroy Smith passed away Nov. 30, 2014.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eli Leroy and Matilda Elizabeth Smith; sister Elaine Crone; and daughter Kelly Lee Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Beverly Turner Smith; sister Barbara Jordan and husband Laverne; daughters Donna Fatheree and husband Jim and Sherry Wehner and husband Paul; and son Michael Smith and wife Nancy. He is also survived by five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Robert Leroy Smith (known by all as “Smitty”) was born in a lumber camp in D’Lo, Mississippi, on Sept. 3, 1926. His family moved to Oak Grove, Louisiana, while he was an infant. He graduated from Oak Grove High School in May 1943 at the age of 16 and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy that September at the age of 17.

He served in the amphibious forces and on aviation rescue craft during the war in the Pacific, attaining the rank of petty officer third class. He was discharged in March 1946.

Smitty married his lifelong partner, Beverly Alberta Turner, on Aug. 30, 1946, and he enrolled in college that same year. He graduated magna cum laude in petroleum engineering from Louisiana State University in May 1950 and immediately went to work for the Chevron Corp. The first 20 years of his 35-year career with Chevron included a wide variety of assignments in domestic operations, ranging from the Gulf of Mexico to the Rocky Mountains.

Smitty’s first foreign assignment was as chief engineer and construction manager for the Caltex joint venture in Indonesia. His next assignment was to Chevron’s corporate headquarters in San Francisco. He was ultimately promoted to chief production engineer for Chevron’s worldwide operations in 1979.

In August 1981, Smitty and Beverly returned overseas, while Smitty served as vice president of the Stemco Division of Aramco in Saudi Arabia for three years. After completing that assignment, he retired in September 1984, and he and Beverly moved to Lake LBJ in the Texas Hill Country, where they planned to live out their days.

Smitty loved hunting, fishing and telling the many stories of his illustrious life. But his greatest love was spending time with his family. His favorite time of year was Christmas, when his family would gather around him and he could sing Christmas carols to his heart’s content.

A celebration of life is 10:30 a.m. Dec. 16 at Trinity Episcopal Church of Marble Falls.

Byron Deryl Boucher, 74, of Burnet died Dec. 13, 2014

Byron Deryl Boucher, 74, passed away Dec. 13, 2014. He was born Sept. 29, 1940, in Commerce, Texas, to Haskel Weldon and Mamie Ruth Marshall Boucher.

He graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering in 1963. He was employed in the aerospace industry until 1970, when he moved to Burnet and joined Morgan Wright in a water well drilling business.

He was a past president of the Texas Water Well Association and served on the Burnet County tax board. In 1977, he started his own business, Western Water Wells, which he ran until retiring in 2003.

He had a lifelong interest in guns, and his desire was to do accuracy gunsmithing to his own. In his retirement years, he enjoyed working in his shop until health and mobility became issues. He often said he was very happing working at his job drilling water wells and being able to enjoy the outdoors, scenery and wildlife.

His third marriage was to Linda Fincke Ramsower on Sept. 20, 1996. They belonged to the Highland Lakes Good Sam Club and enjoyed many years of travel with the group. They shared a strong interest in flying, RVing, shooting, hunting and the love of the Hill Country.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; stepson, Eric Johnson (Melaine) of Burnet; grandchildren, Leif, Cortni and Cole, all of Burnet; great-grandson, Robert L Johnson of Mississippi; brothers-in-law, Rudy Fincke (Debbie) of Burnet and Tony Garza (Renee) of Mississippi; former father-in-law Morgan Wright (Mae) of Burnet; and many cousins, nieces and nephews who will miss him.

A funeral service was Dec. 16 at Edgar & Jenkins Family Funeral Home, 109 N. Main St. in Burnet, (512) 756-4444, with burial at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park.

Ella Rose Crisp, 72, died Dec. 14, 2014

Ella Rose Crisp, 72, passed away Dec. 14, 2014. She was born Aug. 2, 1942, in Houston to Alfred and Wilda Meacham.

She graduated from Dayton High School in 1960. She received her Bachelor of Arts in teaching from Sam Houston State University. Ella taught in Huntsville and Kansas City. She retired from teaching in Marble Falls.

Ella is survived by her children, Angie Blaisdell and husband John Blaisdell, Danna Bruns and husband Rex Bruns and Bubba White and wife Shirley White; grandchildren, Amber Blaisdell, Brianna Shrubar, Brian Shrubar, Geoffen Bruns, Chelcee Bruns, Ashley McGaha, Whitney Taylor and Dylan Ball; sisters, Ouida Hopkins, Wilda Meacham, Paula Olguin and Shirley Haidusek; and her dog, Fancy. She is also survived by numerous other relatives and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don Crisp; and brother, Melburn Meacham.

Ella’s smile and laugh were truly like none other. She loved reading and sewing. She also loved her family unconditionally.

Melva Ellison, 94, of Burnet died Dec. 13, 2014

Melva Ellison, 94, of Burnet, Texas passed away Dec. 13, 2014, at the Oaks Nursing Center. She lived in Burnet for 15 years after moving from Comanche, Texas, to be near her family. 

She was a member of Oaks West Church of Christ and had many Christian friends.

Melva was an Avon representative for 42 years in Lubbock, Comanche and Burnet.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Ellison; parents; and three siblings.

Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Richardson and husband Jerry; grandchildren, Lori Head and Bryan Head; great-grandchild, Arya Head; brother, Bob Watson; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service is 2 p.m. Dec. 18 at Oaks West Church of Christ in Burnet. Burial is 11 a.m. Dec. 20 at Resthaven Cemetery in Lubbock.

Gwendolyn Houghton, 72, of Burnet died Dec. 13, 2014

Gwendolyn Houghton, 72, of Burnet, Texas, passed away Dec. 13, 2014. She was born in Houston on Sept. 4, 1942, the daughter of Henry Connie Foster and Mabel Odessa McGlothern.

Gwendolyn loved people and enjoyed her church, Calvery Hill. Her heart was as big as Texas.

Gwendolyn is survived by her sons, Eddie Houghton of Burnet and Craig Allen Houghton of Seattle; daughters, Sissie Daughtry of Montgomery and JohnnyE Mourer of Dayton; sister, Connie Evans of Burnet; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.

A memorial service will be planned at a later date.

Barry Don Patterson, 58, of Spicewood died Dec. 12, 2014

Barry Don Patterson passed from this life Dec. 12, 2014, at the age of 58. He was born July 19, 1956, in Austin to Robert and Glenna Patterson.

He resided in Spicewood, Texas, and was No. 5 of seven children.

Barry’s lifelong occupation was plumbing, but he recently started driving a school bus for the Lake Travis Independent School District.

Barry was a people person who never met a stranger and was always willing to help others. He was a jack-of-all-trades and could do just about everything. He will be so greatly missed.

Barry is survived by his wife, Vicki Patterson; son and daughter-in-law, Brandun and Jessica Patterson; grandchildren, Taylur and McKynzie Patterson and Brandon, Will and Justin Beckwith; brothers, Larry Patterson, Tommy Patterson, Bobby Patterson, Kelley Patterson and Perry Patterson; and sister, Vickie Rabino. He is also survived by numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

James Taylor Virdell Sr., 90, of Llano died Dec. 11, 2014

James Taylor Virdell Sr. was born in Rochelle, Texas, on Jan., 22, 1924, the first child of James Clarence and Annie Myrtle Taylor Virdell. He died Dec. 11, 2014.

In 1936, he moved with his family to Llano, where he lived since that time. After high school, he served 38 months in the Army Air Corp as an aerial engineer on B-25 bombers. In April 1944, he and Annelle Therese Lehmberg were married.

Beginning his profession as a water well drilling contractor after the service, he developed and was owner of Virdell Drilling Inc., a company engaged in the drilling of water wells, pump installation and well service. The Virdells have been drilling wells in Central Texas for five generations — 114 years.

Taylor was a devoted family man and took much pride in watching his children and grandchildren in their numerous activities. He also took part in church and civic activities in his community as well as served on state and national levels in the groundwater industry. He served as director and president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and Llano Chamber of Commerce and, in 1984, was named the Llano Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Citizen. For six years, he was on the Llano Independent School District school board, serving as president for two years. He served 12 years on the Llano City Council and two years as mayor pro-tem and was very instrumental in the Llano Athletic Booster Club, serving as its first president. In 2007, received the Humanitarian Award for the Llano High School Hall of Fame.

He was a member of the Texas Ground Water Association, was elected to the board of directors in 1968, was president for two years and was named an honorary member. He also was a member of the National Ground Water Association, was elected to the board of directors in 1977, served as president in 1984 and was given a Lifetime Honorary membership. He was appointed by Gov. Dolph Briscoe to the Texas Water Well Drillers Board for six years, serving as chairman for two years, and was a member of the Advisory Committee for Tarleton State University’s hydrology department.

Taylor’s faith and love of His Lord was evident in all phases of his life as he served on many boards and committees at Lutie Watkins Memorial United Methodist Church as well as lay speaker and Sunday school teacher. The community Thanksgiving meal served by his church and others was originated by Taylor. He had a passion for serving on Emmaus and Kairos teams and is credited with naming Llano’s Emmaus Community the Llano Uplift Emmaus Community. He also served on the Southwest Conference Emmaus Board for one year, was on the first Kairos team inside Texas prisons, served as director of Kairos #4, was on the Kairos board of directors as chairman for one year and represented the Texas Kairos Board of Kairos International.

Taylor is survived by his wife of 70 years, Annelle; two daughters, Vicki and husband Frosty of Pontotoc and Constance and husband Walter of Valley Spring; son, James Taylor Virdell Jr. and wife Brenda of Fredericksburg; seven grandchildren, Faron Miller, Fara Miller Underwood and husband Matt, Brice Milliorn and wife Mechelle, Micah Milliorn Goebel and husband Garrison, Kiley Virdell Bounds and husband Justin, Caleb Virdell and Ty Virdell and wife Ainsley; 10 great-grandchildren, Nathan, Austin and Kinley Miller, Maci and Mitchell Underwood, Alexis and Zander Milliorn and Jaxon, Beaux Taylor and Caiden Virdell.

In 2015, the family wlll be blessed with three more great-grandchildren.

Also, surviving him are his sister, Mrs. Lee (Annette) Ussery; sister-in-law, Mrs. J.B. “Corky” Virdell; numerous neices, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother J.B. “Corky” Virdell.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Taylor’s caregivers, Jade Chism, Rhonda Herridge and Marjorie Ferguson, for their excellent and compassionate care during these final years.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to Lutie Watkins Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 397, Llano, TX 78643; the Llano High School Hall of Fame, 1400 S. Pallbears for Taylor will be his grandchildren, Faron Miller, Brice Milliorn, Caleb and Ty Virdell, Fara Miller Underwood, Kiley Virdell Bounds and Micah Milliorn Goebel, and grandsons-in-law, Matt Underwood, Justin Bounds and Garrison Goebel.

Danny Willard, 67, of Burnet died Dec. 13, 2014

Danny Willard, 67, passed away Dec. 13, 2014, in Austin, Texas. He was born Feb. 18, 1947, in Detroit to Charles and Helen Willard and grew up in Missouri and Arizona.

Danny and Karol spent their honeymoon here in the Highland Lakes in 1968, and it was love at first sight. Eleven years later, they made it their permanent home.

He was a contractor for 40 years, leaving his mark in the area in the form of beautiful homes he built.

He was a magnet for children and loved to fish. Danny and Karol owned and operated Lakeside Grocery for the last 21½ years.

Danny is survived by his wife, Karol Willard of Burnet; daughter, Kandi Ray and husband Lance of Bertram; son, Chris Willard and wife Carrie of Austin; grandchildren, Sunni Craytor, Matt Parker, Austin Parker, Talon Willard and Colton Willard; great-grandchildren, Brooklynn Craytor and Tatum Craytor; sister, Donna Clough; and brother David Willard of Buchanan Dam.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Gary Willard.

A funeral service was Dec. 16 at Buchanan West Baptist Church with interment following at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park.

Phyllis Renee Boyd of Burnet passed away at the age of 58 on Dec. 16, 2014. She was born in Snyder, Texas, on Feb. 18, 1956.

She is survived by her husband, Larry Boyd; son, Clinton Pack; mother, Nancy Jeffries; brothers Richard Jefferies, Tommy Jeffries and Larry Jeffries; twin sister, Kay Jeffries; and sister Carol McKinney.

Martin B. Daenzer, 64, of Lake Buchanan area died Dec. 14, 2014

Martin B. Daenzer passed away Dec. 14, 2014, after a long, hard battle with melanoma. He was born in Sterling, Kansas, on Aug. 15, 1950, to Orville and Fern Archambeau Daenzer.

He graduated from Travis High School and spent four years in the Navy on board the destroyer USS Power.

Martin retired from the post office in Austin and Taylor after 30 years of service. He loved his family, country dancing, smoking briskets, boating, his dog Kikki and life in the country on Lake Buchanan. We miss him dearly.
Preceding him in death were his parents and beloved daughter, Jade Deanzer.

He is survived by his wife, Christine Daenzer; son, Matthew Daenzer and wife Lauren; granddaughters, Alyssa and Keira; sisters, Kathy Blades and Linda Daenzer; brother, Phil Daenzer; former wife, Denise; and a niece and nephew.

Robert O. Vesper, 88, of Burnet died Dec. 18, 2014

Robert O. “Bob” Vesper, 88, passed away Dec. 18, 2014, in Burnet, Texas. He was born July 23, 1926, to John Henry and Hilda Vesper in Long Pine, Nebraska.

He married Gloria Larson in 1948 in Ironwood, Michigan, and they were married for 66 years.

Bob was in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He graduated from the University of Nebraska and worked for Exxon and its predecessor companies for 36 years.

Bob is survived by his wife, Gloria of Burnet; daughter, Janice Vesper Martin and husband C. David Martin of Florida; sister, Helen Stec of Nebraska; and granddaughters Claire and husband David Smith and Sheila and husband Michael Bentley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert David Vesper; and two brothers.

A funeral service is 11 a.m. Dec. 22 at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stan Troy officiating. Interment is 10 a.m. Dec. 23 at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.

Naomi Dian Fletcher Bowers, 92, of Marble Falls died Dec. 19, 2014

Naomi Dian Fletcher Bowers, born Dec. 1, 1922, in Des Moines, Iowa, passed away Dec. 19, 2014, in Austin, Texas.   

She was preceded in death by her husband, Scott Bowers.

She is survived by two daughters, Shelia Cormier and Sharon May; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was an active participant in her community, from Iowa to California to Georgia and, finally, to Texas. She became an licensed vocational nurse in her 50s because she liked to help people. She was a member of the League of Women Voters and the Democratic Women of Texas. She served on the first Silver-Haired Legislature in Texas from 1986-87. She was a founding member of the Marble Falls Senior Activity Center. She also was an active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.

She was a strong woman who lived life her way and to the fullest. She made lifelong friends wherever she went and was still in touch with people in California to New York, Florida, Iowa, South Dakota, Oklahoma and Texas. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.

A memorial service is 1 p.m. Dec. 29 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Marble Falls.

Wilma B. Goodwin, 84, died Dec. 15, 2014

Wilma B. Goodwin, 84, went to be with her Lord on Dec. 15, 2014. She was born in Elgin, Texas, on Sept. 14, 1930, to Ed and Florence Gunn.

Wilma was a devoted Christian and active in her church throughout her life. Most recently, she attended Maranatha Bible Church in Akron, Ohio. Wilma’s encouragement was instrumental in the spiritual growth of many family members and friends. She had many struggles in life but always remained faithful, kind and able to see the good in others. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; and siblings, Elizabeth, George, Leon, Dub and Carl.

She is survived by her loving children, Paula (Wayne) Krause, Debbie (Victor) Singleton and Chuck (Sandra) Kelly; sisters Bertha (Bill) Garfield and Gladys Cook; grandchildren, Jason (Michelle) Singleton, Nicholas (Mariel) Singleton, Melissa Kelly and Amanda (Bryan) Mouton; and great-grandchildren, Emma and Max Singleton.

Wilma will be laid to rest at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park in Burnet, Texas.

Elizabeth Lamb, 91, of Round Mountain died Dec. 19, 2014

Elizabeth Lamb, 91, of Round Mountain, Texas, passed away Dec. 19, 2014. She was born in Alief, Texas, on Oct. 9, 1923, to William Fred and Lillian Minnie Marek Schneider and was one of nine children. 

Elizabeth was a nurse and met her husband, Abe Lamb, while he was in the hospital. Although she was a fabulous cook, known for her kolaches and as the owner of two restaurants, she was humble about her cooking.

She was a longtime member of Spicewood Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Abe Lamb; parents; siblings; and four great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth is survived by her children, Don and Margaret Lamb, Bill and Sandra Lamb and Beverly and Butch Rosenbaum; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Hazel Irene Carpenter Payne, 90, of Burnet died Dec. 14, 2014

Hazel Irene Carpenter Payne, 90, of Burnet died Dec. 14, 2014, at Oaks Nursing Home in Burnet.  Hazel was born Dec. 11, 1924, in Liberty Hill, Texas, to Arthur Abner and Pauly Belle Plevan Carpenter. 

She married Arlie Payne on Dec. 24, 1943. They were married 62 years. She was a stay-at-home wife and mother to their four children during the first years of their marriage. Later, she joined her husband in the auction business as a bookkeeper and then managed Traders Paradise in Bertram until 2005.

She was longtime member of Northside Baptist Church in Burnet.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include sons, Robert Payne and wife Penny of Burnet, Jerry Payne and wife Sue of Bertram and James Payne of Temple; daughter, Gloria Jackson of Burnet; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Kathryn Carpenter; many nieces and nephews; and her Oaks friends and family.

A funeral service was Dec. 18 at Edgar & Jenkins Family Funeral Home, 109 N. Main St. in Burnet, (512) 756-4444. Interment followed at Mount Zion Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Alan Payne, Justin Mather, Paul Reese, Terry Zinz, William Burgess, Jeremy Payne, Mike Dominguez and Danny Payne. Brother Barry Drake officiated the service.

Shirley Leverett Todd, 78, of Llano died Dec. 19, 2014

Shirley Leverett Todd was born Oct. 29, 1936, to Sam and Nola Holland and passed away Dec. 19, 2014.   

On Dec. 24, 1952, she married Miles C. Leverett. Together, they raised a family before his death Dec. 9, 1982.

Upon Miles’ death, Shirley enrolled in nursing school. She graduated and became a licensed vocational nurse in March 1984. For the next 28 years, she worked as a nurse at the hospital in Llano, a cancer treatment center in Lubbock and, later, nursing homes in Llano.

She was one of the most compassionate and dedicated nurses to ever care for the patients she served. She worked as a nurse until the age of 76, setting an example for those much younger than her and leaving an impact on many, many lives.

On July 24, 1987, she married William J. “Dub” Todd in Lubbock, Texas. He preceded her in death.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Kathy Baker and husband Richard of Llano; son, Sammy Leverett and wife Tracy of Llano; grandchildren, Ricky Baker, Michael Baker, Matt Baker and wife Teresa, Jordan Leverett, and Jessica Leverett; great-grandchildren, Theron, Zach, Mason and Sidney Baker, Heavenly and Hanna Baker, Drew, Sterling and Weston Baker, Calvin Taylor and wife Heather, and Claire, Caroline, Cameron, Calvin, Camielle, Callahan and Catie Taylor; sister-in-law, Myrtle Holland; dear friend, Vaughn Howell; dog, Tippy; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Nola Holland; brother Foley Holland; Danny Taylor; and granddaughter Lori Baker.

Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Dec. 22 at Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home, 307 E. Sandstone in Llano, (325) 247-4300. A funeral service is 10 a.m. Dec. 23 at the funeral home with the Rev. Dale Strawn officiating. Burial will follow at Bluffton Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Ricky Baker, Michael Baker, Matt Baker, Theron Baker, Zach Baker, Mason Baker, Drew Baker, Weston Baker, Jordon Leverett, Calvin Taylor and Andy Kolb.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bible Baptist Church or the Llano Junior Livestock Association.

Barbara Ann Collier Crownover, 72, of Marble Falls, Texas passed away Dec. 22, 2014, in Round Mountain, Texas. She was born in Austin, Texas, on Nov. 19, 1942.

Barbara was the daughter of Austie Collier and Bea Ruth Tatum and grew up in Marble Falls. She married Robert Lee Crownover in 1959.

Barabara was a homemaker most of her life. She enjoyed cooking and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Walnut Methodist Church in Round Mountain.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Robert Lee Crownover of Round Mountain; two daughters, Debra Ann and husband Steve Dickens of Burnet and Janet Marie and husband Michael Myrick of Lampasas; four grandchildren, Morgan Dickens Harris and husband Seth Harris of San Antonio, Hudson Dickens of San Marcos and Falon Cheyenne Holland and Marion Levi Holland, both of Lampasas; brothers, Stan Collier and wife Sue of Marble Falls, Jerry and wife Sue Collie of Temple; sisters, Bertie and husband Bobby of Marble Falls, Judy and husband Nelson Lynn of Burnet and Gracie Frasier of Marble Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service is 10 a.m. Dec. 26 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 1805 U.S. 281 North in Marble Falls, (830) 693-4373.

Linda Bailey, 75, of Marble Falls died Dec. 19, 2014

Linda Bailey left the confines of this Earth to be with her Father in Heaven on Dec. 19, 2014. She went in peace, surrounded by her family. She was born Aug. 22, 1939.

Linda was born in Spokane, Washington, and grew up enjoying horseback riding, playing in her school band and spending time with her numerous friends. She always loved the beauty of the mountains of the Northwest.

After graduating from high school, she entered the Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Spokane. She became a registered nurse in 1960.

She met Kent Bailey in February 1960 in a pizza parlor in Spokane, and they were married on Nov. 26, 1960. Their three daughters, Kathy, Karen and Kristy, arrived in quick succession.

Following Kent’s graduation from engineering school, the family moved to Texas and eventually settled in Houston in 1966.

Linda began working as an emergency room nurse at Spring Branch Memorial Hospital in 1966 and worked there for 34 years until her and Kent’s mutual retirement in 2000. She thrived on the excitement and unpredictability of the ER and provided first-class care for the variety of patients who came through the doors.

During retirement, she capitalized on more spare time to enjoy her favorite hobbies of gardening, painting, rubber stamping, making beautiful handmade cards and spending precious time with her

family and friends.

Kent and Linda moved from Houston to Marble Falls, Texas, in 2005, finally getting away from the big city to enjoy smalltown life once again. In Marble Falls, she became active with various volunteer organizations, offering her considerable talents and time helping others.

During her life, she loved the beauty of nature, creating works of art, and always put her family and others first and foremost.

Louis Joseph Honeycutt Sr., 78, of Spicewood Beach died Dec. 22, 2014

Louis Joseph “L.J.” Honeycutt Sr. passed away peacefully in his home with his family by his side Dec. 22, 2014, in the Spicewood Beach community near Spicewood, Texas, at the age of 78.

Louis Honeycutt is survived by his children, Jeana Gail Aaron of Spicewood, Louis Joseph Honeycutt Jr. of Galena Park and Audrey Clydene “Dena” Yates of Angleton; stepchildren, Glenn Ubernosky, Paula Steeves and Wendall Ubernosky; and brother Al Honeycutt of Spicewood. L.J. had nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Jean Honeycutt; mother, Audrey E. Watson; father, William C. Honeycutt; and brother Bill Honeycutt.

L.J. was born Jan. 21, 1936, in Houston to Audrey E. Honeycutt. He attended Jeff Davis High School. L.J.’s proudest accomplishment was purchasing an electric company, becoming self-employed in 1967 as a master electrician.

In 1979, L.J. helped form the Spicewood Beach Property Owners Association, for which he served on the board in various positions, including president and vice president for numerous years.

L.J. was a member of the Pasadena Rodeo Association and served as an auxiliary police officer for the Galena Park Police Department. He was known as “King of the Derbies” in his younger years and was highly involved in coordinating the annual Destruction Derby in the Astrodome in Houston.

L.J. was involved with the Spicewood Volunteer Fire Department for 15 years. He helped to start the annual Destruction Derby fundraiser for the Spicewood Volunteer Fire Department.

L.J. enjoyed old country music by legends such as Kitty Wells, Hank Williams, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Gary Stewart and numerous other recording stars. His favorite color was blue. His hobbies were fishing, camping, racing, boating and woodcrafting.

A viewing is 4-6 p.m. Dec. 27 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 1805 U.S. 281 North in Marble Falls. A funeral service is 2 p.m. Dec. 28 at the funeral home. A graveside service will immediately follow at Holloway Cemetery in Spicewood with a reception to follow at Spicewood Beach Recreation Hall. Pastor Doug Lindley will officiate the services. All are welcome to attend and celebrate L.J. Honeycutt’s life.
