Karen Williams Henley, 71, of Marble Falls was peacefully called home to be with her Heavenly Father on Jan. 9, 2015, after an extended illness. Karen was born June 27, 1943, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Lalage Birmingham and Harold Leslie Williams.

After spending her public school years in Tulsa, she went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree at Tulsa University and a master’s degree in speech pathology at Oklahoma State University. Karen worked in numerous fields of endeavor before moving to Houston, where she served as a civilian senior personnel specialist in the Houston Police Department’s recruiting division. While there, she met and married Roy A. Henley, a Houston police officer, on April 21, 1990.

When Karen contracted cancer in 1996, its physical toll soon led to her and Roy retiring and eventually moving to Central Texas in 1999. There, they enjoyed several good years of country living until Karen’s health began to deteriorate again. She was admitted to the Granite Mesa Health Center in Marble Falls in mid-May 2012 and remained there until she passed from this life to eternal rest on Jan. 9, 2015.

An only child, Karen was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves behind to celebrate her life her husband, Roy A. Henley of Marble Falls; stepdaughter, Rhonda K. Oden and husband Jeff of Elgin; and stepson, Robert A. Henley and wife Janet of Marble Falls. Karen also leaves behind six step-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren and many extended family members. Karen was never blessed with children of her own, but she dearly loved the family she gained through marriage.

At her request, Karen’s earthly remains were entrusted to Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 1805 U.S. 281 North in Marble Falls, (830) 693-4373, for cremation. A private memorial gathering to celebrate her life will be held at a later date for family members and close friends.

The family wishes to extend its heart-felt thanks to the management and staff of Legend Oaks-Granite Mesa for the loving care provided to Karen during the past two-and-a-half years. Their kindness will never be forgotten!

Deborah Denise Matthews Brown, 55, of Tow died Jan. 12, 2015

Deborah Denise Matthews Brown was born May 29, 1959, in Boerne, Texas, to Ethel Mae Matthews. She went to be with the Lord on Jan. 12, 2015, at the age of 55.

She is survived by her husband, Marvin E. Brown of Tow; daughter, Christina Brown Smith and grandson Brayden Aaron Smith of Cedar Creek; mother, Ethel Matthews of Johnson City; sisters, Ann Matthews Hashaw and husband Earl of Johnson City and Elizabeth Matthews Schmitz and husband Brian of Cottonwood Shores; and nieces Justine Hashaw of Marble Falls and Haley Hashaw of Johnson City.

Deborah was preceded in death by her infant son, Aaron Matthew Thomas, and father, John Richard Matthews.

Deborah achieved many great accomplishments in her life. She was the valedictorian of the graduating class of 1976 at Lyndon B. Johnson High School in Johnson City.

On Nov. 10, 1984, she married Marvin Brown and settled in Tow. Deborah was a member of First Baptist Church of Tow, and she and Marvin successfully ran the Bluffton Store for more than a decade. Most recently, Deborah earned her Realtor’s license and first experienced success as a real estate agent in the Bastrop area before returning two years ago to Llano County, where she established herself as a trusted real estate advisor.

Deborah was most proud of her daughter, Christina, and grandson, Brayden. It seemed her world became complete on April 29, 1998, when Brayden was born. She delighted in being his full-time caregiver during his pre-school years and continued to be his biggest fan and partner in crime, including keeping after-school detention in middle school a secret from his mother.

Deborah overcame many challenges in her life — the loss of her son and her medical and physical ailments, just to name a few — but she overcame the obstacles with fierce determination to meet each goal she set her mind to. She was a self-taught bookkeeper, a home renovation specialist and the family’s go-to seamstress for contest-winning Halloween costumes. Deborah even sewed her own wedding dress as well as the dresses for her bridal party.

Deborah held a special place in so many lives. Her sisters and close family called her Debbie; her nieces knew her as Aunt Deb; her daughter called her Ma; and her grandson called her “Manga.” It was one of his first words, and the one he always used to call his grandma. His grandpa Marvin is “Binks.”

A funeral service is 2 p.m. Jan. 17 at Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home, 307 E. Sandstone in Llano, (325) 247-4300, with Pastor John Taylor officiating.

Julia Alice (McFaddin) Reilly died peacefully Jan. 15, 2015, in Marble Falls, at the age of 90. Julia was born in Beaumont, Texas, on Nov. 24, 1924, and was the youngest and last surviving child of Charles Walter and Mabel Maurine (Dugger) McFaddin. Her father was variously a Texas Ranger, a cattleman, a rancher, a farmer and a businessman, and her mother was a school teacher.

Julia’s parents moved to Arizona when she was young, and she attended schools in Casa Grande and worked during World War II for U.S. Defense Department contractors. Shortly after the war, she moved to San Antonio, where she met her husband, Eugen E.J. “Gene” Reilly. They married in 1952.

In her busy life, she worked as a railroad clerk for Southern Pacific Railroad, an executive secretary for the presidents of Southern Steel Corp. and Highland Lakes National Bank, a real estate agent and broker and a mother to three children.

Julia and Gene began raising their young family in San Antonio, the base of the road construction business that Gene, his brother Art and his mother, Louise Maupin, owned. In 1968, Julia and Gene decided they wanted to raise their family in the Highland Lakes and moved to Granite Shoals. They later moved across the lake to Blue Lake Estates.

Julia got started in the real estate business when she worked for the developers of Meadowlakes on Lake Marble Falls, and she thereafter went to work for NGD Realtors.  Julia and Gene (who had just sold his part of the family company to his brother) started Reilly Real Estate in Marble Falls in 1978, and she remained active as a real estate broker until her retirement at the age of 84 in 2008. She served as president of the Highland Lakes Board of Realtors in 1978 and received the board’s Trailblazer Award in 2002. She also served as a board member and president of the Highland Lakes Tourist Association.

Julia loved her family and her work. In the real estate business, she set a standard for ethical practices, and her customers loved her dearly. Her humor and disposition could brighten any room or place she visited. She loved humor and remained active with her friends and family for her entire life, getting out in public as often as she could, including being with friends and family on her 90th birthday and for the past Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. She lived to provide joy to others, and she succeeded without limitation.

Julia was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Charles Walter McFaddin, Allen Minor McFaddin, James Ellis McFaddin and William Roy McFaddin; and sisters, Lelia Rachel McFaddin Fawcett, Florence McFaddin, Lucile McFaddin, Nellie McFaddin Dissler, Ruth McFaddin Schwartz and Sylvia Mabel McFaddin Cicora.

Jackie Justis, 70, of Llano died Jan. 15, 2015

Jackie Justis was born in San Saba County to Charlie and Essie Tyler Justis on July 9, 1944. He went to meet our Lord on Jan. 15, 2015.

He moved to Llano at a young age and graduated from Llano High School as a proud member of the Class of 1962. Rumor has it he drove a great car that held a lot of girls, which made him the main man on campus.

Jackie was involved in many things during his life, but there are few that really stand out. He was an avid golfer and loved being on the greens with friends telling tall tales and hanging out at the 19th hole. He made some really good friends playing golf. One notable friend drove really fast, played horrible rap music and called him “Grasshopper.”

Another pastime that was big part of Jackie’s life was fishing. To say he loved fishing would be an understatement. He spent many long hours in the hot sun with Karla and special friends reeling in the “big ones.” The fishing stories got bigger and bigger the more friends he told them to! They also had the wonderful experiences of shooting competition sporting clays and making friends from all over the world.

Jackie was the proud owner of J & J Construction and had the privilege of working side by side with his son, who learned the art of woodworking with even more perfection than Jackie, which is saying a lot. He loved kids and was a proud supporter of the junior livestock show, where he was lucky to be involved with his kids. Jackie supported not only them but many kids who just needed a mentor or a friend. Many thanks to Mr. James Epperson for his teachings. Jackie and Karla watched many a sporting event cheering on these kids. We can think of one kid in particular who he had to thump on the head a lot, and this child grew into a fine young man and a Marine.

Jackie’s life was full of wonderful events. There were sad times but many wonderful times with friends and family. There are many experiences we have not listed, but believe me, they are not forgotten.

A very special thank you goes to Jackie’s niece, who was there at the time she was most needed. We were going to list honorary pallbearers, however, there are so many friends he would have wanted everyone to have that honor. Jackie and Karla are so blessed to have so many friends. The outpouring of love and support has been amazing. They thank you from the bottom of their hearts.

Jackie is survived by his wife, Karla, and her daughter Jennifer and family; one daughter, Nicki; and Sean Jackson. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Jackie had many, many friends in his Life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles Justis Jr.; sister, Lillie Justis Craven; and son, Bret.

He was laid to rest at the Llano City Cemetery on Jan. 17, 2015.

Mary Vick Scott Hamilton passed away peacefully Jan. 18, 2015, at age 86. She was born Nov. 15, 1928, to Jeff Davis “Babe” and Laura Ellen (Clinger) Scott.

She graduated in 1946 from Llano High School, where she played the baritone and worked on the school newspaper. Upon graduation, she worked for several years at the Texas Highway Department in Austin, where she lived at a boarding house with her girlfriends. On an evening at the State Theater with the girls, she met her soon-to-be-husband, Kenneth Kling Hamilton, with just a wink and a smile.

Vicki, as her husband liked to call her, was a devoted and loving mother of three girls: Laura, Celeste and Barbara. She raised her girls in Texas, moving frequently to follow Kenneth’s career in the oil tool business. Llano was their retreat, and she was happiest when she was fishing for catfish or deer hunting with her family.

Eventually, she and Kenneth retired in Llano, where she enjoyed painting pictures of the Hill Country as a member of the Llano Fine Arts Guild. She loved sharing family snapshots, tending to the pecan orchard and cooking for the family gatherings. All the grandchildren would request her famous “Granny Tea.”

She had a super sweet tooth and was known for her giving nature. She never let you leave the house without packing you a goody bag with cookies, candy, fruit and a soda or whatever she had handy. But most of all, she loved to love her family so very much.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Allie Clinger Scott.

She is survived by her sister, Geraldine Lawless, husband of more than 60 years, Kenneth; three children; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was very proud of her heritage and living in Llano, where she was able to keep in touch with family and friends with whom she grew up.

A graveside service was Jan. 22 at Board Branch Cemetery with the Rev. Rick Cundieff officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Arrangements by Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home, 307 E. Sandstone in Llano, (325) 247-4300. Email whhfuneral1@verizon.net with condolences.
