Corrinne Iris Jensen Layton, known to all her friends as Connie and to her family as Mema, passed away Oct. 20, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Huron, South Dakota, to Margaret (Stitt) and James Jensen on Nov. 27, 1929. It was love at first sight when Connie met Bobby Freeman Layton, and they married on Aug. 1, 1964.
She retired from the Federal Reserve Bank in San Antonio and moved to Sunrise Beach. She then spent many years working at Highland Lakes Bank. Connie lived her life to its fullest, touching everyone she met with kindness and love. Her greatest joys were her family, friends, pets, bowling and gardening.
She embraced every day with happiness and passion, and she will be greatly missed, especially by her family but also by everyone who ever knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents and older brother Hubert. She is survived by her husband, Bobby; brother, Keith Jensen and wife Cheri of South Dakota; sisters, Phyllis Carlson of Illinois and Virginia Quesnot and husband Eugene of San Antonio; daughters, Sharon Lee and husband Shelby of College Station, Cindy Anglley and husband Rick of Llano, Dawn Ferman and husband Mike of Arizona and Kathy Hildebrand and husband Gilbert of Boerne; son, Keith Layton and wife Debbie of North Carolina; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is 2 p.m. Oct. 25 at Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home, 900 Industrial Blvd. in Kingsland, (325) 388-6767.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Down Syndrome Association of Central Texas.
