Clayton Clark Howell Jr., 88, of Spicewood dies Oct. 25, 2014

Clayton Clark Howell Jr. was born Sept. 23, 1926, and passed peacefully on Oct. 25, 2014.

He married Shirley Mae Howell on July 1, 1947.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Shirley Mae Howell; mother, Helen Keller Gray; father, Clayton Clark Howell Sr.; sister Margaret Griffin; brother-in-law Ray Griffin; and grandson Jeffrey Marcus Laney.

He is survived by daughters, Connie Mae Howell Heller and Kellie Mayes Howell Laney; his grandchildren Stacey Holliday, Deedee Mae Denby, Bertie Diane Denby, Kimberly Rochelle Laney Tonkin and S. Gregory Laney; great-grandchildren, Kaleb Jeffrey Johnson, Saylar Clayton Denby, John Ayers, Taylor Bryan Johnson, Laney Tonkin, Brantley Laney and Bradley Laney; and niece Kari Lee Browning.

He was a member of Spicewood Baptist Church in Spicewood. He grew up in the west end Houston and was a member of White Oak Baptist Church. Growing up, he enjoyed the water, roller skating, going to the movies and dancing. Throughout his life, he enjoyed masonic work, the Navy, boating, water skiing, jet skiing, hunting, working on boat and car engines and the oil rigs in Oklahoma.

He proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a seaman 1st class from 1943 to 1946. He was also a 32-degree master mason and a member of the Pasadena Masonic Lodge #1155.

He never met a stranger, was the life of the party and was loved by all in the Spicewood community. He loved his family. We are proud to call him Daddy, Grandpa, Grandpa Buddy, Uncle and Junior

Visitation for family and friends is 6-8 p.m. Oct. 28 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 1805 U.S. 281 North in Marble Falls, (830) 693-4373. A service is 11 a.m. Oct. 29 at the funeral home. A reception will follow at the Spicewood Beach Recreation Hall, 207 Golf Course Drive in Spicewood Beach.
