Vicente M. Gonzales Sr. was called by our Heavenly Father on Feb. 1, 2015, at the age of 74, surrounded by his family at his Oatmeal, Texas, home.

Vicente’s legacy started on Oct. 27, 1940, in San Antonio as the third child of Mr. Federico A. and Mrs. Maria de la Neives (Mendoza) Gonzales.

Growing up in a large family, Vicente helped as a field laborer, traveling with the family where work took them and working with other families. It was in this environment that Vicente met Miss Augustina Arellano, and they were married April 4, 1964, in San Antonio.

Vicente worked as a heavy equipment operator as well as a commercial vehicle driver for the city of San Antonio and the San Antonio Water System for 30 years. His work ethic and love for his family continued with him throughout his life. He was a “big brother” to many and a father figure to others as an example of wisdom, understanding and courage.

He enjoyed listening to his conjunto music into the wee hours of the morning. His love of fishing and hunting, along with his spouse, brought him to the Hill Country for retirement.  He was well-loved by all who knew him and will be dearly missed.

Vicente M. Gonzales Sr. was preceded by his son Albert A. Gonzales and grand-daughter Brittany Marie Gonzales.

He is survived by his spouse, Augustina Gonzales; two sons Vicente A. Gonzales Jr. and Vernon A. Gonzales and spouses; and six grandchildren, Jeremy, Jennifer, Breana, Julia, Desiree and Jayden.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers Frederico Jr., Monico, Ricardo, Alfredo, Federico Alfredo and Roberto M. Gonzales; and sister Jenoveva M. Gonzales.  He is survived by brothers Juan Julio, Jose Ramon, Rogelio, Ruben and Rodolfo M. Gonzales; and sisters Mrs. Rufina Holt, Mrs. Dora Laureles, Mrs. Maria Luisa Herrera, Mrs. Rosa Maria Godines and Ms. Elida Gonzales.

Visitation for family and friends is 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Feb. 4 and 8 a.m.-9 p.m. Feb. 5 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 306 Texas 29 East in Burnet, (512) 756-2222. A Rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Feb. 5. A funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Feb. 6 at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in Burnet.
