LaVerne Underwood Martin Branum passed away peacefully Feb. 2, 2015, at 11:15 a.m. at Seton Highland Lakes Hospital in Burnet. She was surrounded by her family and close friends.
LaVerne was preceded in death by her mother, Ann Riddles Hoover; her children’s father, Harold “Pud” Martin; and grandson Tony Manning.
She is survived by her son, Jack Martin and wife Susan of Valleyhead, Alabama; and daughters, Helen McKee and husband Gary of San Angelo and Ann Oliver and husband David of Burnet. Also surviving her is her brother, Darrell Underwood and wife Wanda of Dallas; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
LaVerne had a passion for hairdressing and dancing. She loved to do the Texas Two-Step or the Texas Waltz, especially with her two sons-in-law. Her hair was always top shelf, and, boy, could she put out a hairstyle.
Visitation for LaVerne 6-8 p.m. Feb. 5 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 306 Texas 29 East in Burnet, (512) 756-2222. A funeral service is 10 a.m. Feb. 6 at Northside Baptist Church in Burnet. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Calf Creek Cemetery near Brady. Pallbearers are Gary McKee, David Oliver, Terry Oliver, Jeff Manning, Taylor Manning-Steele, Stephen Shuffield and Bradley Shuffield, and the honorary pallbearer is Garrett Steele.
