Jan Darrell Parker, 67, of Burnet dies Oct. 25, 2014

After a long illness, Jan Darrell Parker, 67, of Burnet died Oct. 25, 2014, at the VA Hospital in Temple. Jan was born Feb. 24, 1947, in Cushing, Oklahoma, to Bernie Parker and Geraldine Schoessow Parker.

He moved to Burnet in 1973 and was active in the community ever since.

Jan was a member and former director of the Burnet County Fair and Rodeo Association; a member, a director and a treasurer of the Burnet Chamber of Commerce; and, for many years, a volunteer coordinator for the Bluebonnet Festival. He served as a volunteer coordinator and fundraiser for the former Highland Lakes Medical Center; was a former chairman of the Burnet County Hospital Authority; and, more recently, served on the board of the Highland Lakes Health Fund. He also was a member of the Burnet Rotary Club, a Burnet Honor Citizen and a recipient of the Valley Masonic Lodge #175 A.F. & A.M. Community Builders Award.

He attended the University of Oklahoma and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Jan was employed for many years at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, where he worked in bookkeeping, accounting and at the crematory as crematory operator. He enjoyed his activities, his family and his yard work. He will be missed more than he will ever know.

Jan is survived by his wife of 36 years, Geneva; children, Julie Fariss, Amy Counts and husband Matt, Sam Greenlees and wife Linnie, Lori Forman and husband Jeff and Bonnie Rodriguez and husband Roland; nine grandchildren, Ryan, Jessica, Michael, Haley, Jordan, Mattie, Tess, Peyton and Campbell; and great-grandchildren, Daniel and Geneva. He is also survived by his sisters, Bonnie Hanshew (Duane) and Judy Reynolds (Linda Harrison); and nieces and nephew Kim Anderson, Jennifer Henshew, Lisa Bannerman and Scott Jones.

A memorial service is 2 p.m. Nov. 1 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 306 Texas 29 East in Burnet, (512) 756-2222, with the Rev. Doug Lindley officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hill Country Community Foundation or to any favorite charity or organization.
