Sam Warren Rabb, 91, of Llano died Dec. 8, 2014

Sam Warren Rabb was born Aug. 2, 1923, and died Dec. 8, 2014. He was a seventh-generation Texan whose ancestors came to Texas with Stephen F. Austin’s original 300 colonists and others who fought in the American Revolution. He lived all of his 91 years in the same house in which he was born.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, James Richard and Mamie Hartman Rabb; brothers Carl Richard and John; sisters Doris Alma and Wilma Ann; and son Richard Lee Rabb.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary Elizabeth Willbern Rabb; sons Sam Warren Jr. and wife Carol, Hilton Stanley and wife Ginny and Russell Carl and wife Janie; daughter-in-law Debbie Rabb; grandchildren, Scott Rabb, Jennifer Rabb Faz, Casey Rabb Kendrick, Cassidy Rabb, Nicole Rabb Levlon, Carson Rabb, McLean Rabb, Hayden Rabb, Preston Rabb and Layton Rabb; and great-grandchildren, Travis, Clayton and Kyndall Rabb, Avery and Camry Kendrick, and Jacob Levlon.

Sam served in the Army from 1946 to 1947 and was active in many civic organizations, including the Llano school board, the Hill Country Livestock Raisers Association and the Llano Golf Association.

For many years, Sam was among the leaders in the hog industry in the state of Texas. He was also a successful breeder of champion hogs and show steers. Along with partners James Epperson and Philip Smith, he operated the Llano Hog Co. buying station for 27 years.

Sam was always very active in his boys’ lives and a strong supporter of all their athletic and livestock show endeavors. He was honored as the Llano Cowboy of the Year in 2007 and was presented the Llano Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame Award in 2010 for his long record of agricultural and civic achievements. In 2011, Sam and Mary were named Jackets for Life by the Llano Independent School District.

A funeral services is 2 p.m. Dec. 11 at Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home, 307 E. Sandstone in Llano, (325) 247-4300, with the Rev. Gretel Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at Llano City Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers are Scott Rabb, Travis Rabb, Clayton Rabb, Carson Rabb, McLean Rabb, Preston Rabb, Layton Rabb and Andy Kendrick. Honorary pallbearers are Norman Grenwelge, James Epperson, Taylor Virdell, Earl Edwards and Spence Tanksley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hill Country Livestock Raisers Association at P.O. Box 292, Llano, TX 78643; the Llano Junior Livestock Show at P.O. Box 118, Llano, TX 78643; or the Llano High School Hall of Fame at 1400 Oatman St., Llano, TX 78643.
