Dorothy Laverne Sanders of Burnet passed away Dec. 8, 2014. She was born Dec. 9, 1926, in Taylor, the daughter of Eugene and Myrtle Ross Barton.
Dorothy moved to Burnet in 1939 and later married Richard Sanders Sr. in 1946.
Dorothy was an active member of St. Matthew’s AME Church in Burnet, where she served as president of the Stewardess Board for more than 30 years and on numerous other boards and committees. She served as secretary for Richard Sanders Garage for 30 years.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 67 years, Richard Sanders Sr. of Burnet; daughters, Dorothy Johnson of Marble Falls and Elizabeth Houston and husband Rufus of Burnet; grandchildren Denisse McLemore, Renee Bird and husband George, Erica McLemore, Natalie Houston and Tamika Sanders; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Marie Sanders of Augusta, Georgia; and sister in-law Ella Faye Sauls of Manor.
She also leaves behind a host of other family members and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; son Richard Sanders Jr.; granddaughter Brandy Sanders; great-grandson Zachary Conely; and brothers Horace Barton Sr. and Hubert Barton.
A funeral service is 1 p.m. Dec. 12 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 306 Texas 29 East in Burnet, (512) 756-2222. Interment will follow at Burnet City Cemetery.
Pallbearers are David Sanders, Jacob Scott, Chris Scott, J.P. Wright, Jarrard Barton, George Banks, Connie Brown and James Collins. Honorary pallbearers are Rufus Houston, Horace Barton Jr. and James Scott.
