James “Jim” Preston Barton, 84, of Kingsland, Texas, passed away Jan. 5, 2015. He was born to Wilson and Alta Marie (Watson) Barton on June 8, 1930, in Shady Grove, Texas.
Jim married Billie Jo Box on Jan. 21, 1950, in Burnet, Texas. He loved to garden, hunt, fish and barbecue. His gift for frying fish cannot be copied and was enjoyed by many. He taught his grandchildren and great-grandchildren to drive without parental supervision in the same old pickup.
Jim was a talented “fixer,” and many objects around his home have been “Jim-rigged.” Above all, he was a proud and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. His great-granddaughter Leyah considered him her best friend.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Billie Jo Barton of Kingsland; daughters, Sandra K. Barton of Bertram, Linda Raschke and husband John of Kingsland, and Camilla Marie Bohlin and husband Mark of Foley, Alabama; grandchildren, Pamela Wilson of Kingsland, Natalie Gonzalez and husband Emmanuel of Royce City and Brett Bohlin and Rebecca Scott, both of Foley, Alabama; grandson-in-law Josh Wilson of Kingsland; great-grandchildren, Leyah Wilson, Klayton Wilson and Fiona Scott; and sister, Randa Hance of Rockwall. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, all of whom he adored.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; son, James E. Barton; and brothers, Marvin and Wilson “Hoppy” Barton.
Serving as pallbearers are Jerry Roe, Tim Rybaski, Ernie Isaack, Danny Stone, Jerry Allred and Ron Verstuyft.
Visitation is 4-6 p.m. Jan. 8 at Putnam Funeral Home, 145 Texas Ave. in Kingsland, (325) 388-0008. A funeral service is 10 a.m. Jan. 9 at the funeral home with a graveside service at 2 p.m. at Shady Grove Cemetery in Burnet County.
