Mary Vick Scott Hamilton passed away peacefully Jan. 18, 2015, at age 86. She was born Nov. 15, 1928, to Jeff Davis “Babe” and Laura Ellen (Clinger) Scott.

She graduated in 1946 from Llano High School, where she played the baritone and worked on the school newspaper. Upon graduation, she worked for several years at the Texas Highway Department in Austin, where she lived at a boarding house with her girlfriends. On an evening at the State Theater with the girls, she met her soon-to-be-husband, Kenneth Kling Hamilton, with just a wink and a smile.

Vicki, as her husband liked to call her, was a devoted and loving mother of three girls: Laura, Celeste and Barbara. She raised her girls in Texas, moving frequently to follow Kenneth’s career in the oil tool business. Llano was their retreat, and she was happiest when she was fishing for catfish or deer hunting with her family.

Eventually, she and Kenneth retired in Llano, where she enjoyed painting pictures of the Hill Country as a member of the Llano Fine Arts Guild. She loved sharing family snapshots, tending to the pecan orchard and cooking for the family gatherings. All the grandchildren would request her famous “Granny Tea.”

She had a super sweet tooth and was known for her giving nature. She never let you leave the house without packing you a goody bag with cookies, candy, fruit and a soda or whatever she had handy. But most of all, she loved to love her family so very much.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Allie Clinger Scott.

She is survived by her sister, Geraldine Lawless, husband of more than 60 years, Kenneth; three children; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was very proud of her heritage and living in Llano, where she was able to keep in touch with family and friends with whom she grew up.

A graveside service was Jan. 22 at Board Branch Cemetery with the Rev. Rick Cundieff officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Arrangements by Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home, 307 E. Sandstone in Llano, (325) 247-4300. Email whhfuneral1@verizon.net with condolences.
